Westwood's Ambitious Expansion in Abbeville County

In a significant boost to the local economy, Westwood, a prominent manufacturer of small modular homes and sheds, has announced plans to expand its operations in Abbeville County with a $2.85 million investment. This expansion is set to create 42 new jobs, further solidifying Westwood's commitment to the region and its mission to deliver quality craftsmanship.

Creating Jobs and Supporting Community Growth

The upcoming expansion will add 30,000 square feet of warehouse and office space to Westwood's existing facility located at 2491 South Carolina Highway 184 in Due West. New positions will span various roles, including forklift operation, warehousing, and skilled trades like framing, plumbing, and siding, aligning with the community's need for stable employment opportunities.

Local Leaders Praise the Expansion

Local leaders have expressed strong support for this initiative, with Abbeville County Council Chairman Billy Norris highlighting the company’s tradition of quality craftsmanship. “It’s always a great day to see our existing industries growing in Abbeville County,” Norris stated, emphasizing the positive impact this expansion will have on the local workforce.

Future Prospects in Modular Home Manufacturing

According to Mike Yoder, a partner at Westwood, the company aims to become the leading source for quality homes of 1,500 square feet or less in the Southeast. The first phase of the new facility is expected to commence operations in early 2026, with plans for further buildout over the next few years. This long-term investment reflects Westwood’s confidence in the region and its desire to enhance the quality of life for its employees.

Westwood's Expansion: A Community Affair

Austin Walker, Development Director at the Abbeville County Economic Development Partnership, commented on the broader implications of Westwood's growth. He noted that the company’s ongoing investments not only create jobs but also bolster the county's reputation as a hub for craftsmanship and community engagement.

As Westwood begins this exciting chapter, it invites those interested in joining its growing workforce to explore open positions on its career website. The ongoing expansion embodies a vision where quality homes meet a spirited community dedicated to growth.
