Honoring Heroes on Patriot Day
As the nation pauses to remember the tragic events of September 11, 2001, the Semper Fi Barn in Six Mile invites community members to gather for a heartfelt Patriot Day Remembrance Ceremony. Scheduled for September 11, the event follows the poignant theme, “Remember • Reflect • Recommit,” emphasizing the importance of honoring the lives lost and reaffirming our commitment to unity and remembrance.
Significant Moments of Silence
The ceremony starts promptly at 8:30 a.m., with four distinct moments of silence scheduled to align with the times of each attack. Participants can engage fully or join at their convenience, making the event accessible for those with varying availabilities. Each moment will be preceded by a narrative recounting the events of the day, allowing attendees a brief insight into the somber history we reflect upon together.
Community Focus and Flexibility
Community involvement is crucial for the success of this remembrance. Joyce Hansel, Regent for the Fort Prince George Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, emphasizes this sentiment. She states, "Whether someone can stay for two hours or two minutes, every form of participation honors the memory of September 11th." This flexibility is pivotal in allowing more residents to pay their respects, fostering a spirit of inclusivity.
A Space for Togetherness and Reflection
Hosted outdoors, with the American flag lowered to half-staff, the ceremony provides a tranquil setting for reflection. Should weather conditions be unfavorable, indoor accommodations will be offered. Moreover, families are encouraged to attend, highlighting the significance of sharing this remembrance across generations.
