Community Comes Together to Honor Patriot Day
On September 11, 2025, the Semper Fi Barn in Six Mile will serve as a poignant gathering place for a community-wide Patriot Day Remembrance Ceremony. This event is more than just a remembrance; it’s a heartfelt invitation for residents to come together and reflect on the events that changed the course of history following the September 11, 2001 attacks.
Reflective Moments of Silence
The ceremony, aptly themed “Remember • Reflect • Recommit,” will kick off at 8:30 a.m. and invites flexibility in participation, acknowledging that every attendance matters, whether for the entire duration or just for a moment of silence. Notably, the community will pause for four deliberate moments of silence that align with the timeline of the tragic attacks:
- 8:46 a.m. - North Tower, World Trade Center
- 9:03 a.m. - South Tower, World Trade Center
- 9:37 a.m. - Pentagon
- 10:03 a.m. - Flight 93, Pennsylvania
Each moment will be marked by bell or chime signals, paying homage to lives lost and stories untold. A narrative preceding each silence will provide context, reminding attendees of the magnitude of the day's events.
Welcoming All Participants
The gathering will take place outdoors, weather permitting, with the option for indoor accommodations. Children are encouraged to attend, ensuring that the remembrance spans generations. Joy Hansel, Regent for the Fort Prince George Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, emphasizes the essence of the day: “Whether someone can stay for two hours or two minutes, every form of participation honors the memory of September 11th. This is about community, remembrance, and ensuring we never forget,” she states.
A Free and Open Invitation
This event is not just a ceremonial observance; it's a community event that bridges gaps and fosters unity. The Semper Fi Barn, located at 314 Smith Memorial Highway, Central, will welcome everyone free of charge.
